A Dream Deferred by Langston Huges

June 16th, 2009

Hello Fellow World Dreamer,

What we do everyday does matter as long as it helps us take one step closer to Achieving our goals.

I found this poem to bring a little value to my day and thought you may be interested in looking over it as well.

This Poem of Course relates to A World Dreamer Taking Action.

So find a way to see if can help you take a little action today.

All the best,

Julio R. Mattos

A Dream Deferred

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up

like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore -

And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?

Or crust and sugar over -

like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags

like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

When the Going Gets Tough …Fire Your CEO First!

April 2nd, 2009

When the Going Gets Tough …Fire Your CEO First!

Dear Business-Builder,

When someone asks, “What do you do for a living?” there is only one correct answer.

It’s not, “I have a business.”  A business is something you own; not something you do.

It’s not “I’m a doctor.”  That’s just a profession – not what really pays the bills.

And it’s sure not, “I give investment advice.”  Or, “I do landscaping.”  Or, “I dry-clean clothes.”  Or, “I write sales copy.”  Those are just the products and services you sell.

The only correct answer to this most common cocktail-party question is to declare loudly and proudly …

“I’m a marketer!”

“My specialty is attracting new customers … persuading existing customers to make ever-larger purchases … convincing them to buy more often … and making sure they keep buying from me forever.”

I’m not quibbling here; the point I’m making is a crucial one.  Because your answer to the “What do you do?” question says a lot about how you think about your business or career.

And as long as you define yourself by what you own or by the sheepskin on your wall or by the product or service you sell – as long as you define yourself as anything but a marketer – you are setting yourself up to make huge mistakes in how you run your business that will limit your success.

Because every business and every non-profit organization is first and foremost a marketing enterprise.  Because nothing happens until the cash register rings.

So it amazes me that so many marketers structure their companies upside-down:  With MBAs, bean-counters and lawyers at the top and marketers forced to beg for resources.

In good times that’s a bad idea.  In bad times, it’s idiotic.

We’re now staring down the barrel of the worst holiday season in decades.  With unemployment surging, wary consumers are pinching their pennies, avoiding all but essential expenses.  And all around the globe, businesses are cutting costs like there’s no tomorrow.

But cost-cutting is only half of the equation.  In times like these, companies that find ways to introduce new efficiencies into their business process are most likely to survive.  And that means we can no longer afford to elevate bureaucrats and relegate the marketing department to second-place.

In times like these, we don’t need CEOs.  We need CMOs — Chief MARKETING Officers — running our companies:  People who make sure that attracting new customers, selling more to each customer and keeping customers buying longer are the top priorities of every employee — from the business owner right on down to the janitor.

Nor do we need budgets that restrict the amount of testing marketers are able to do — we need spending mandates that empower marketers to run every good idea up the flagpole to see how many prospects and customers salute.

My advice:  If you own a business or work for one, read this.  Then, read this.  Then, marshal the troops this week to brainstorm what you should be doing right now to put marketing first.

I’ll predict that one meeting will do more to help your company or your clients’ companies thrive than anything else you could possibly do this week.

This is an awesome article for some of us to use and but a lot of people still do not understand, they still prefer fancy titles over what you actually do and what industry you are in and also by how money you make. Remember we are all in marketing no matter what one may say and no matter how far you claim you are not, you really are.

Take Control Of Your Business Journey

April 2nd, 2009

“Take Control Of Your Business Journey”

What do I mean by this exactly?

You see most of the time we are always making excuses as to why we are not getting the results that we truly desire. We tell ourselves that we will make something happen today, but then we begin to procrastinate and then find ourselves on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, or one of our social media outlets.

We may find ourselves typing away thinking that we are being productive and definitely social media is very important strategy for our businesses and it allows for us to have a personal touch to our business, but do realize that their are more then that marketing channel you need to implement then just that one. Some people tend to realize that you just need a fancy website and or some fancy graphics and that traffic or more accurately our desired target niche customers will begin to come to our website without any marketing.

Ok, let’s be realistic here, yes traffic can come to your site automatically if you set up your marketing campaign properly, but if you believe you will get free traffic simply by setting up your site with nothing other then sales copy, think again it will not happen. You must really use all of the different marketing channels that are out in our world. As a business owner you will find yourself always testing different marketing and advertising strategies, Why? Well let’s be perfectly clear here, you mission is to get traffic to your website and not just any kind of traffic, you do not want to sales cars into the health niche do you? Because you will not get in any sales, well if you do it maybe one or two, but you will want to target the Auto Niche instead because it will bring you better results.

So by doing market research and doing some testing with keywords, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), using audio “Teleseminars”, ebooks, videos, radio talk show, live webinars, joint venture partnerships, Building Your Own List or List Building, all of these are different marketing channels but better know as testing or Strategies to implement into your business. Along your business journey we will find helpful and support from many different resources, but as internet marketers and offline marketers, we are in business and so if we are not trying all the different marketing strategies to advance along our way what’s going to get us to that next level and will keep us in business pass that 5 year mark, then to the 10 year mark.

Remember nothing happens until you make the first move and take action. So get going on working on those plans you have long put away and have allowed to collect dust, no matter if it’s digital dust or offline physical dust. You claim that if you only had a little more time, a little more money, a little more this and that, you could succeed. Well let me tell you that it will never happen unless you get your mindset on achieving your goals and looking forward to maximizing your plans and taking strategic action upon your plans.

Mindset it the key foundation in you taking action, being alive and being driven are very important mechanisms to getting you going and re-gaining your focus and motivation and inspiration along our business journey’s no matter inf you are taking your interney business journey or your offline business journey, you must realize that you are in business to make money. So if you are not the business to make money and you are only looking to loose money, well you know there are casino’s all over the place and also you can play the lottery and wish for you to win. The chance of you winning is stacked very highly against you and will not help you benefit.

Alright maybe your long term desire is not to make money, but instead you are in the non profit business, well sorry to inform you no business can stay afloat for long without having financial backers, better know as investors or donations coming in. But wait, that still requires money doesn’t it?

Think about taking control of your business journey by applying leverage to your business, by that I mean using the leverage of all the different strategies that maybe applied to your business. Ok, what do I mean by that which might be on your mind currently right?

How can I become a Lazy But Productive person, well if you have’t been able to tell up until this point how a lot of succesful businesses constantly continue to grow, while other companies who were highly successful are now going out of business or need financial bailouts from the governement. They are using leverage in many different forms but to name a few fully using Technology, systems, plans, actions, by taking a  step by step approach and thinking a little more wisely. A lot of successful individuals and businesses are either hiring and constantly learning themselves, but they are acquiring more people or different approaches of being smarter and working smarter not harder through the use of Leverage.

A lot of us we use Technology which could mean laptops, iphones, software in many different forms, autoreponders, webhosting.

Like I said you have to take control of yourself and your business in order to have a very successful and create passive income along your business journey, because we are always looking to maximize profits and become more of risk managers and eliminate as much risk as we possibly can.

Hopefully this will motivate you and get you going on taking some action rather then sumply sitting around and not doing anything and constantly complaining that you are not getting anywhere.

Best regards,

Julio Mattos

Why You Should Promote Residual Affiliate Programs

April 2nd, 2009

Why You Should Promote Residual Affiliate Programs

Are you a webmaster in need of additional income?  Or are you planning to set up an online business but you still don’t have any product to sell?  If so, affiliate marketing may be the best solution for your problems.  With affiliate marketing, you won’t need to worry about the products you have to sell.  All you need to have is a website with sufficient contents that are related to the products of a certain online company offering affiliate programs.  By becoming a member of the program, or by becoming an affiliate, you can start earning a certain amount of money right away!

Affiliate marketing is some sort of business relationship established between a merchant and his affiliates.  In affiliate marketing, an affiliate agrees to direct some traffic to a merchant’s website.

If that traffic is converted into some kind of action, like a visitor purchasing a product on the merchant’s website or a visitor becoming a lead for the company, the affiliate who directed the traffic will be compensated.  Compensation may take the form of either a percentage sales commission for the sales generated or a fixed fee predetermined upon the application of the affiliate on the merchant’s affiliate program.

Promising a lot of benefits both for the merchants and the affiliates, affiliate marketing has become one of the most popular online marketing methods today.  In fact, almost every merchant or retailer site today offers an affiliate program that any one can join into.  Most retailers would entice people to become affiliates or members of their program by promising great benefits like large commissions, lifetime commissions, click through incomes and a lot of other benefits.  But would all these affiliate programs bring off the same benefits?

Most affiliate programs would pay you, as an affiliate, a one-time commission for every sale or lead you brought to the merchant’s website.  Commissions for this kind of affiliate programs are usually large, ranging from 15% to a high of about 75%.  Other affiliate programs would pay you a fixed fee for every click through or traffic you send to the merchant’s site.  Programs like this often pay a smaller fee for every click through, usually not getting any larger than half a dollar.  The good thing about this kind of program, however, is that the visitor won’t have to purchase anything in order for the affiliate to get compensated.

Another type of affiliate program is the residual income affiliate program.  Residual affiliate programs usually pay only a small percentage of sales commission for every sale directed by the affiliate to the merchant’s site.  This commission often comes only in the range of 10% to 20% sales commission.  Because of this, many people ignore residual affiliate program and would rather opt for the high paying one-time commission affiliate program.  Are these people making a mistake, or are they making the right decision?

We can’t tell, for sure, if people are making a mistake by choosing a high paying one-time commission affiliate program.  But we can definitely say that they are making a large mistake if they ignore residual affiliate programs.  Residual affiliate programs would indeed pay at a lower rate, but merchants offering such kind of programs would generally pay you regular and ongoing commissions for a single affiliate initiated sale!  That means, for the same effort you made in promoting a particular affiliate program, you get paid only once in a one-time commission program, and a regular and ongoing commission for a residual program!

So, are the benefits of promoting residual affiliate programs clearer to you now?  Or are they still vague?  If they are still vague, then let’s make them a bit clearer with this example.

Suppose there are two online merchants both offering web hosting services on their sites.  The first merchant offers a one-time commission type of affiliate program that pays $80 for every single affiliate initiated sale.  The second merchant also offers an affiliate program, but this time a residual affiliate program that pays only $10 for every single affiliate initiated sale.  As an affiliate, we may get attracted at once at what the first merchant is offering, as $80 is definitely a lot larger than $10.  But by thinking things over before actually getting into them, one may be able to see that the second merchant is offering us more opportunity to earn a larger amount of money.

Supposed you have directed traffic to the merchant and it converted into a sale, you’ll get paid once by the first merchant for the sale you have initiated.  But with the second merchant, you’ll get paid monthly for as long as the customer you have referred to the merchant continues to be a customer of the web hosting service.  That means that for the same effort of getting one customer to buy the merchant’s service, you get paid monthly in residual affiliate programs while you only get paid once in a one-time commission type of affiliate programs.

So, are residual affiliate programs worth promoting?  Definitely yes, because you virtually get more money from these types of affiliate programs in the long run!  And would residual affiliate programs work best for you?  Probably not, probably yes.  It is not really for me to tell.  But with the benefits that residual affiliate marketing can provide, it would really be unwise to ignore such programs.
